The news that customers will be able to get free tax preparation service has prompted an intense and varied reaction among consumer advocates.

The nation’s largest retailer is going to do taxes for millions of people for free this year.
Wal-Mart says there will be tax preparers in 3,000 of its stores. Most of those preparers will be from Jackson Hewitt, although some will be from Block.
With the latest round of re-organization at Jackson Hewitt, Wells Fargo seems destined to run the nation’s second largest tax preparation chain in the country.

Republic Bank will continue to provide tax settlement products for customers of Jackson Hewitt through 2014. Republic filed an 8-k this morning that details the agreement.
If it was not clear before, this should make it fairly straightforward that there will be refund anticipation loans available to consumers in the upcoming tax season.
The agreement includes both assisted refunds and refund anticipation loans.
