Thanks, James. What is developing is a complicated interplay between the location of affordable housing, the difficulty of getting a mortgage, and a new schools policy. When Knightdale says that they have 'enough' affordable housing, it will also mean that they have 'enough' of socioeconomic diversity in their schools...as you certainly are already aware.
What I'm waiting for is when the next John Wall from Southeast Raleigh is allowed to transfer to Cary High School.

Well, it is true that there are "lies, damn lies, and statistics." But these are just simple "descriptive statistics." Count the mortgages, count the denials, make a percentage, compare the percentages. Not very complicated. I am surprised most by the denials of upper income African-Americans. The key point, though, is not if the mortgage lending is "fair" or "unfair." For here, the point is that there is a gatekeeping effect in place, and the Wake Board policy will give that effect some influence over access to schools.

Makes you wonder what is being left out in that information. I think a lot. We, as citizens, need to be cognizant of th fact that some things aren't presented when some presentations are meant to favor one side of the political spectrum.

Excellent and insightful post. Seems the Gang of Five is locking in the shortcomings of the status quo, preserving "upward mobility" for those who are already upwardly mobile.
