Ohio Park to Close

July 26th, 2007

In an all-too familiar case of unintended consequences, a land-lease community in Licking County, Ohio will close after county health department inspectors demanded that a park owner make improvements to the park’s electrical system.

County inspectors asked Rex Masterson, owner of Felumlee Mobile Home Court, to make approximately $20,000 in improvements to the park.

Masterson contends that there is no way to make the improvements, keep rents low, and still make a profit.

Licking County This Week reports that more than 20 families will have to find a new place to put their homes before the end of August. The article quotes Betty Tarr, 69, a park resident for 30 years, that they need more time.

Masterson reportedly plans to clean up the park and then sell it.

Tarr bought her home used in 2004 for $6,500. She expects that moving it will cost her $2,000, but so far she has not found a place willing to accept her old unit.
