Housing Stock in Lousiana after Katrina
July 21st, 2007
Estimates say that Katrina has removed approximately 77,000 rental units from the stock of apartments in New Orleans. Many of those households that once rented are now in manufactured housing.
A story from the International Herald Tribune puts context to the numbers. The displaced have not had an easy transition. Its hard, for example, to live in a home that is 18 miles from the nearest supermarket. Access to jobs are also challenging.
