EITC

The Earned Income Tax Credit provides a stimulus for low-income families with wage income.

The EITC was initially developed by Republican legislators in the 1970s an anti-poverty measure. It was praised by Ronald Reagan and adopted by leaders from all places in the political spectrum. Today, the EITC is a vital element in helping working families.

In 2007, North Carolina offered a new state EITC. The NC EITC added another 5 percent to the federal EITC credit.
